To get promoted as FP&A Analyst, you need to show you can lead. Outstanding performance at your core tasks isn’t enough.

Here are 4 ways you can demonstrate leadership:

#1 Moderate a meeting

The commercial team may have a weekly meeting where they review sales trends.

Volunteer to run the meeting. That means managing the agenda and walking people through the discussion points. You don’t need to be an expert at what’s discussed. You can keep the conversation going by asking questions.

Bonus Tip: Distribute meeting minutes to add even more value and take ownership of the message.

#2 Identify process improvements

Leaders work not just in the business, they work on the business. They challenge the status quo.

Find ways you can simplify, automate, or eliminate a repeating process. Month-end close and report generation are great places to start.

#3 Present at a town hall meeting

It can be scary to speak in front of a big audience. But it also signals to your managers that you are ready for bigger tasks. It shows you don’t mind to step outside your comfortzone to grow your skills.

#4 Manage a project end-to-end

You want your manager to trust you enough to let you lead projects of increasing complexity. That’s because the easiest way to get promoted is to show that you already perform at the next level.

Showing that you can complete a complex task from start ot finish with only minimal support from your manager or other senior stakeholders builds that trust. You just need to make sure to keep your boss up-to-speed on the progress to ensure you are on track at all times.

In-sum, to get promoted as a Financial Analyst, show leadership by:

1️⃣ Leading meetings

2️⃣ Challenging the status quo

3️⃣ Presenting to large audiences

4️⃣ Managing tasks from start to finish
